External Funding Opportunities
In addition to the financial opportunities at Florida State University, there is a tremendous array of external funding opportunities available to support graduate education.
Assistantships
Several graduate programs pledge specific funding to their incoming graduate students in the form of research and teaching assistantships. For more information on these and other funding opportunities you should contact your department and/or college.
Office of Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid provides information and advising for graduate students in search of need-based financial aid. Students are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to ensure that they are eligible for the widest range of assistance.

Funding & Awards
The location of the Westcott Building has been the site of an institution of higher education longer than any other site in Florida.
Application for financial awards and application for graduate school admission are two separate processes often with different deadlines. Students need to make separate applications for each award sought. The process of identifying financial assistance should begin at least one year prior to beginning a graduate program.
There are a number of available options when it comes to funding your graduate education at Florida State University.
The Graduate School administers merit and need-based fellowships, awards, and grants.

The Florida State University Graduate School offers several fellowships on the University level. This includes the new Legacy Fellowship.
