Christy is currently in her eighth year of teaching as a special education teacher. She started her career as a resource teacher at Fort Braden School where she was voted teacher of the year for the 2010-2011 school year. She is currently a post-secondary teacher at Gretchen Everhart school in Leon county where she serves multiple leadership roles including: graduation committee chair, department chair, and LITE coordinator. In addition to her active participation with her school, she is working on her Masters in Special Education at Florida State University and plans to graduate in the Summer of 2018. She has also been active as the Big Bend Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children president for the last two years, and is currently serving as the Vice President for the State of Florida Board for the Council for Exceptional Children. As a CEC member she participated in the CEES training, and helped advocate for special education services at the capitol. Last school year Christy was voted the 2016-2017 teacher of the year for her school.

Becoming a member of the Fellows Society has made me feel more connected to the university. As an online student, I often feel disconnected from the actual campus. Being invited to functions, even though I have a hard time making it as a full time teacher, makes me feel like I'm a little more in the loop. I've met other students who I can network with and possibly become involved in some collaborations over time.
